Dear Dad and Mam

Just a line to let you know how things are progressing with me at present I feel pretty sore about the lower regions and am in hospital in Cairo with septic sores on me legs and pretty rotten ones they are too, but I am glad to say that I feel in the pink in myself so you see there is nothing to worry about. I have not been able to write to you for at least a week but it’s not my fault as I have been shifted from one hospital to another till I got here, have been here two days. I saw a Wesleyan Chaplain this morning called Mr Munro he and the Baptist Chaplain work the hospitals of Cairo between them, he was very decent indeed and told me to let him know if I wanted anything. I can tell you I did not know where I was standing when I lay down in a nice soft bed once more. It’s a great change after the old desert stroke (a blanket and valise). So you see everything in the garden’s lovely just now. Lewis Morgan was alright when I left the batt a week ago. How are you all getting on hope you are all in the pink like myself. I will try and get something for Glyn now as soon as I am out of dock. I think I told you I had written to Uncle Messach and Moses hope they have received them alright. The hospital I am in is a fine place used to be the Sultan’s Palace and was built around 1100. There is some beautiful work on it and a fine view of Cairo to be got from there. You had better keep addressing my letters to the batt and I can get them forwarded on here. Must wind up now more soon.Best love and best wishes to all.

The Sultans palace referred to as the location of the military hospital in Cairo was the Citadel, built by Saladin to protect against the Crusaders between 1176 and 1183.
